Pros

A theoretically collaborative environment with weekly team meetings that include discussions with the physician, physical/occupational/speech therapists, case manager, etc. There is hope for improvement with the facility currently under new leadership.

Cons

New location: needs an ironing out of processes to align with the higher acuity needs of the Houston medical center population; align the processes of the therapy and nursing departments. Low morale: due to former lack of supportive leadership; high turnover rate; high staffing ratio- 6-8 patients per nurse; inefficient charting system; SENSORY OVERLOAD due to loud, and intrusive call bell system.

Pros

Helping patients was rewarding, I learned a lot from reading charts, and they offered a retirement plan.

Cons

Severely micromanaged to the point of lasting anxiety. You sit in front of a screen qualifying patients for rehab with unrealistic time limits. Leadership seems out of touch with how long screenings actually take, and the pressure is overwhelming. I regret staying in this role—bedside work offered more respect for the professional license that I hold than being micromanaged and devalued here. Leadership at this location, particularly in business development, was extremely unprofessional. Many team members felt uncomfortable due to behavior that blurred personal and professional boundaries. It affected the work environment and ultimately led to good people leaving. Be cautious—there’s a difference between caring for patients and toxic leadership behind the scenes.
