Pros

There are more than enough patients to have a caseload!

Cons

I hope it is just a local management issue, but there is absolutely NO care or concern about patients or employees; money and numbers are there ONLY concern! It’s very sad. Work/life balance...what is THAT??? Employees work all day and chart hours upon hours at night. Much of the time they do not have supplies patients need, there is NO continuity of care among nursing for the patients (it’s whoever needs the numbers for the week, sees the patients). It’s a total nightmare! RUN...as fast as you can...in the opposite direction...from Encompass in Hattiesburg/Columbia offices of this agency!

Pros

Good benefits, good experience if you're considering nursing, they will help fund your education, employees tend to stick around, so not a lot of turnover.

Cons

Low hourly wage, long days, stressful job, CEO resigned effective immediately and nothing was communicated to staff about it, I heard about it three months later from another employee. They say they want your opinion, but hold town hall meetings in the middle of shifts when nursing staff cannot attend, upper level management doesn't seem to understand nursing.

Pros

Great employee insurance. Better then when I worked in oil and gas.

Cons

This is the most unprofessional company I’ve worked for. They hired me with a decent salary offer that was comparable to my last job. I passed on another salaried offer only because the cost of their insurance would have been a decrease in pay compared to what their insurance costs were. At the end of my first day I was told I would be an hourly employee and not salaried. I was ready to walk but my boss promised I would have a full 40 hour week and also be given overtime so I figured I’d give the company the benefit of the doubt. A couple months into the position the patient census decreased significantly and my hours were cut in half. I worked 10.5 out of 20 working days at the worst month and mostly would have about 3-5 working days cut during better months. I missed out on at least 2 months of pay in all due to cut hours. Even though my hours were cut my workload remained the same and I was expected to keep up with the same workload with half the time. I was given a hard time when I explained why things fell behind because of my hours being cut and was immediately told it was my fault and I was unorganized. I found out later that I was not the only employee they lied to about receiving a salaried position. Luckily I received a great salary offer more then what Encompass originally promised and was able to get away from this place. No wonder they’ve rebranded themselves as Encompass Health...it was all an effort to shake their fraudulent past as HealthSouth. Different name but still the same unethical company! Also from what I can see the nurses are overworked, overwhelmed, and each given too many patients to check in on and care for. While working there I was expected to round on 4 patients 2-3 even though I was not a nurse to see if they had any complaints. Most of the patients always had the same issues. They’d been waiting for hours to see a nurse because they wanted a snack, needed to use the restroom, or they just wanted help with something. Housekeeping was also overwhelmed with their workload. I’d often only see their hours cut and only half staffed trying to clean the whole hospital each day.
