With the U.S. EPA, you can gain broad experience in the environmental science and policy arenas. There are many interesting divisions in EPA Region 5, which covers 8 states.

Cons

The managers under whom I worked were mostly technical people who had been promoted to management levels. Their ability to manage people varied greatly from manager to manager, and it seems the agency could improve their training of managers.
