      Long hours but good pay

      Pros

      Depending on which application you are placed on, your experience as an Implementation Specialist can vary wildly. On newer products you will be more likely to put in long hours, but the possibilities for advancement and contribution to processes are enhanced. Your fellow coworkers will all be college-aged young professionals. This can be inspiring, but can also lead to it feeling like an extension of your college time. Your salary will reflect the hard work you put in. You can easily work for two years to save for grad school or your next career.

      Cons

      High turnover of this role leads to essentially automatic advancement due to “tenure”. Folks referred to me as a tenured employee when I had only one year under my belt. Unfortunately this means that your managers will likely not be suited for managerial positions and examples of mismanagement of people and products abound. This position travels a lot. HR will warn you about the travel in the interview, you should take it seriously. Travel is fun, but the long hours in the airport and airplanes will wear on you. Last but not least, Epic has not had a good time with labour and benefits in the past year. Look up the Epic vs. Lewis case in the Supreme Court for a briefing on that. In addition they recently added a “maternity leave” policy for the first time. It’s woefully inadequate, so even if they brag in the interview, look at the policy details.
