Pros

Great Learning experience for new trainers- a four month learning program called EFTI- but a lot of it is somewhat B.S., where the main focus should be on becoming a master at programming for your clients.

Cons

Too much competition from other trainers, horrible pay structure- $8/hr for floor shifts where you are cleaning up like crazy making everything "picture perfect". Private one on one training pay rate for most is $25-28.50/ session. You make decent money if you reach tier 3 status and hit bonus(42 session/ pay period) or your paycheck gets cut in half. God for bid a client gets sick or goes on vacation and you do 40 sessions for the 2 week pay period instead of 42 needed for bonus- paycheck cut in half. Tier 2 $28.5 hit bonus + $12 per session, Tier 3- $33.5 hit bonus + $13/session. They say if you do what you are told to do and follow their protocols you have a great chance of succeeding- B.S.- I was there for about a year and saw 20 newbies like me come and go- 2 people made it- thats 10%. You really have to be special, and best if you do group fitness too- but now they are not allowing newbies to do group fitness. I also thought this was a gym that i could grow with and be there for years, but during my time there, i saw 3 veteran trainers leave(5+ yr of experience there) and another 1-2 ready to leave. With all personal training jobs- Best if you get into a brand new club.

Pros

Insurance free gym, free classes

Cons

They do not reward their employees for hard work and never show their appreciation in any way, shape or form They use them up and spit them out It's all about hitting the financial goals and making bonus, even though it may compromise the quality control of servicesl. "It's not personal, it's business" is a phrase said by many a manager at Equinox.
