      Pros

      The barrier to entry for this role is low (but extremely difficult to stay in/make a decent living in) Sales training Conferences Fairly broad choice of career paths

      Cons

      Managers recruit oblivious college students with misleading information about the position. No salary (or miniscule, temporary salary w/ reduced commissions). Impossible to be a fiduciary and work here. Sure, you can do what's best for the client, but if you're not selling enough Equitable products then you'll either starve and/or get forced out by management. 'Boiler room' culture. The corporate headquarters staff/execs are unorganized and greedy.

      Very supportive cast in my region - lots of optional trainings to learn various products Option to work in target market (403b)

      No leads, relatively tough sales requirements. Almost certainly you will have to sell to friends/family

      - A lot of young advisors - Some very successfuly advisors

      Cons

      - Management pushes products (Life & Annuity) - Products are expensive and complex - Stuck in an old pyramid schemer sales structure - They wont focus on assets / wrap fee - As you get a large amount of AUM the fee they take on those assets is a lot. - You don’t get a lot in return for the fee that take on your book - Most of the internal staff is under paid and therefore they are not good at moving the ball and making change
