Pros

You'll have the opportunity to work with some of the leading companies and organizations in the world. You'll usually have the flexibility to pursue your interests and grow as a GIS professional.

Cons

The pay is ok, but it is not competitive. Don't be afraid to negotiate for a higher salary after an offer is extended, otherwise you'll never break six-figures.
