Pros

Relatively nice people below management level

Cons

Years of underinvestment in multiple areas meant the long serving staff are used to things being done on a shoestring. In more recent years, very significant sums of money have been thrown at vanity projects with the main intention being to make senior management look good rather than any meaningful improvement. The company is bereft of young talent and HR have little effectiveness in developing or retaining the higher achievers. The growing influence of the Insurance side of the business, based largely on writing lots of long tail Casualty in a soft market, seems an extremely risky and ill considered strategy that is very likely to end badly for all concerned. Everest has changed from being a somewhat old-fashioned but tightly run Reinsurer to a composite mess which is intent on growing the unprofitable insurance arm. Departments like HR and IT have grown their influence significantly but only succeed in destroying value with the bureaucracy and admin that they create. Much of the rot started prior to the current CEO starting, but all the negative aspects have accelerated as he appears more interested in virtue signalling rather than leading the company

Low Pay, Micro Management

Pros

Easy to access from major highway.

Cons

I would never be able to recommend this company to anyone looking for career growth. Career stagnation is more what Everest offers. The mid-level management has been in place for 20+ years and doesn't move up or out, whether competent or not. Lower level staff have no where to go except out the door after a couple of years. There is no recognition for a well-done job and the pay is well under the current market rates for comparable positions in other companies. For the three years I was there, there was a complete turnover (out the door) of the non-supervisory staff in my group and since I left, I was told at least four more individuals have been hired and have subsequently left. This is again mostly due to extremely low pay, no growth, and a micro-managing supervisor who felt it was within their rights to read every email that the staff sent and thought it OK to correct even the smallest item (i.e., a COMMA in a sentence) in that email. The result of this kind of micro-management was extremely low morale and a mass exodus.

Pros

There are some terrific people, many of whom are leaving due to over the top CEO's woke agenda and inability to keep his leftist politics to himself..

Cons

Arrogant CEO forces his political agenda on employees, causing resentment and division where it never existed before. He has driven out all senior management that made the company successful over the years, and preaches his woke religion at every opportunity. The message is hiring and promotions based on what you look like rather than your skills and qualifications. The company is also expanding well beyond its proficiencies (claims and IT departments are particularly lagging) and hiring tons of middle management which is bound to needlessly drive up its once industry leading expense ratio. Everest is having trouble attracting talent and that it because its bad reputation is spreading in the industry.
