Pros

The company is genuinely trying to change the world. It's an exciting space, and although the company's been through a lot the team is a fun and exciting thing to be a part of.

Cons

Long hours, struggling startup. Everyone's doing their best but it's a hard industry, hard product, and hard situation.

Pros

PTO policy is good, some of the people are nice, the ideas in general are great, they're desperate enough to pay you well. Casual work environment, stocked fridge with snacks drinks and sometimes beer.

Cons

The company has been around for about 10 years, so the start up excuses really don't fly. Truth is over 90% of the employees have been there less than 2 years. The 2 developers that have stayed the longest work remotely, so they are shielded from a lot of the BS. The company is constantly losing money and somehow magically getting funding. I received an email showcasing the opportunity I could get by getting paid in stock instead of money. Immediately after that payroll was late 2 months in a row, and the payroll company revoked direct deposit access for months and accounting was forced to give out live checks (because they didnt have money for payroll, and then over billed). In the past 4 years they have gone through 2 sets of lay offs, one as recent as 12/2016. They also fired the CFO in 2015. As for development, it depends, the company is very fragmented and the CEO jumps on any opportunity as impossible as they are. Here's an example. State X is shopping for a new elections company, here's the requirements. E1C then writes an RFP detailing the products we don't have that matches what they want. Engineering gets the go ahead, estimates 6-8 months to fulfill all of those features. Lori (CEO) says we have to do it in 3. We try, work 12 hours days including weekends, fail, she then smashes an ipad and causes a tantrum wondering how this could have ever happened, and state X chooses to go with paper manual ballots instead. Any little project or election that comes up is a similar cycle. The company recently grew substantially and moved offices, but have failed to sell anything new. The states we do have, we do their side elections/ absentee ballots, and constantly have issues with the setup deployment and bugs of those products. Truth be told, developers have created so many features under such rushes, that the amount of technical debt is astounding. The work isn't exciting, though it does sound cool on paper, you won't learn anything new, the technologies are old-ish, but they're stuck using them, and more than 70% of the work you do will be thrown out every time a project is canceled. I doubt they will make it through 2017. Also, regarding the multiple reviews saying the negative reviews are from people that couldn't handle it, or cut it. There is a reason the entire engineering department is less than 2 years old, the new Director of engineering has been there a little more than a year, and the positive reviews on here all sound a little too good.
