Pros

Exposure to prevalent technologies. Experience with people, especially corporate people and their quirks.

Cons

They pretend that everyone in the field has a 30 minute commute every day and therefore don't compensate you for 30 minutes of gas/wear & tear every day. Gas prices fluctuate, but their reimbursement rate never does. When I was they would not give field techs company phones, but instead told them that they were required to install their MDM (mobile device management) onto their personal phones which gave them the ability to remotely access, disable, locate, or erase your phone. They'll add levels of difficulty and responsibility such as having you act as project site supervisor and oversee a bunch of other outsourced techs. You'll now, in addition to doing your own work and your own documentation in multiple ticket systems, be responsible for double checking (or doing) their work, their paperwork, documenting their assigned tasks, etc. They will not give you a raise for this. They will not give you a bonus for this. This is the way.
