My six months at Exceptional Community Hospital were a harrowing ordeal marked by a shocking level of disrespect and disregard for human dignity and safety. As a pregnant medical assistant, I was subjected to a hostile work environment characterized by discrimination, retaliation, and a complete disregard for my well-being. I was forced to obtain a doctor's note to use the restroom and was frequently pressured to perform tasks outside my scope of practice, such as peri-care. Additionally, I was expected to lift heavy patients, despite my pregnancy and the risks associated with it. While the administration claimed they weren't forcing me to lift patients, they failed to communicate my weight restrictions to the nursing staff, putting me in a difficult and compromising position with my coworkers. When I raised concerns about the hostile atmosphere and the unreasonable demands, I was met with retaliation, including a public berating session and a threatening phone call while I was sick, sleep-deprived, and undergoing medical treatment. The company's ultimate disregard for employee welfare was evident in my sudden, unexpected layoff while eight months pregnant. I strongly advise anyone considering employment with ECH to prioritize their well-being and seek a more ethical and humane workplace. I hope this review serves as a warning to others and encourages potential employees to seek a healthier and more respectful work environment.
