Pros

Smart people to work with.

Cons

Management in the Construction practice creates a toxic and competitive environment, often contradicting themselves. The practice is dependent on one major client, and has limited variety in projects. Senior-level staff are not very helpful and do not offer appropriate mentorship to junior-level staff.

Pros

I really love the type of work I do at Exponent. Also, the pay is really great for someone fresh out of grad school. If you're a workaholic you will love to work here. You will learn to stand up for yourself and say no to management.

Cons

Understaffed. Workloads are too high. Managers expect all staff to be workaholics like them who are happy to work evenings/weekends. Who doesn't like casually working a couple hours every night after working a full day? Managers are good at over promising to clients and terrible at managing projects. Managers will ask for crazy things so they can barter with your free time to get what they wanted in the first place (e.g. if they want 10 hours of work over a weekend "I need you to work 30 hours this weekend. Oh you're on vacation, well then I'm sure you can just do this small thing and I'll find someone else to cover for you." When the 'small thing' is 10 hours of work. Also, don't paint staff like they're the bad guy for having a life just because you mismanaged a project or client expectations.) It gets worse during busy seasons.
