Pros

Good location, secure facility, with covered parking.

Cons

Automotive failure analysis team very deceptive to customers. Hostile work environment. No training for specialized projects, safety appears to be optional. Medical insurance cost probably highest in Arizona.

Pros

There are amazing people who've come from academia. Very kind and knowledgeable. I've made very good friends and colleagues working here. Nice opportunities to travel for work. Flexibility to set your own work schedule.

Cons

A culture which values career advancement and is very competitive. Managers fighting for advancement focus on that and not the well being of the people they manage ( not all, but in my experience yes and it's quite common). Billable work creates hustle-culture environment for driving revenue which puts practices against each other. Kinda toxic. Company prioritizes itself over the employer, always. They look out for their own interests and not that of the employee even if company is in the wrong. HR & Payroll dept do not communicate well with each other. Mistakes are made which employees then deal with as a consequence for their errors. No accountability. Defends the status quo for building profit at all costs.

The best place for the right people

Pros

- The most interesting work I've come across - much of the work doesn't actually feel like work - Extreme flexibility in terms of what you're doing and when and how you do it, subject to good engineering principles and meeting deadlines - Virtually no micromanagement, useless meetings, or other things that eat into productive time - Lots of control over your career path - Support for continuing education, training, publishing, and additional credentials - Lots of freedom for who you work with - Lots of mentors willing to share advice - Awesome coworkers who have the same drive and dedication you do (Hint: If you don't, this probably isn't the right place for you!)

Cons

- The work never stops coming - it can be very hard to take a break, especially with lots of talented people around who continue to drive forward -Some projects are inflexible in terms of timing, and if you are working on global projects, 9-5 US business hours really don't apply. (But on the other hand, I can set my schedule to meet my needs, i.e. working in the mornings, afternoons free, and then overseas calls in the evenings)
