Pros

It is a very established company. Among the people that work there is a lot of knowledge and experience, so typically I was able to find answers whenever needed. Since it was a large company, there were lots of opportunities for advancement, whether it was at your current site, or a different site. There were well esablished career paths, whether you wanted to take a technical or management route.

Cons

The company was very conservative - sometimes it was hard if you have a good idea, but it may not come to fruition becase there may be a small amount of risk involved. The pay was okay, but there was no bonus, which is poor compared to other companies.

Pros

Friendly environment and fair number of work hours characterize the company. Layoffs are extremely rare, the atmosphere is generally quite good. International opportunities, diverse workforce.

Cons

Safety and security are absolutely over-emphasized even in positions where this particular focus only causes problems and obstructs daily work. Salaries are a bit lower than the regional average in this sector. Management and policies are totally inflexible, no room for innovation or bigger changes.

Pros

-Solid pay (just graduated school and I make more than any of my friends) -Solid benefits (pension plan...if you can make it that long) -Opportunity to travel and rack up frequent flyer/hotel points -Work from home in this position

Cons

-Secretive ranking and promotion process -Not innovative at all -Doesn't foster creativity -Moves you around to different jobs and different cities every ~2 years and you have no say in where you go or what you do. Many employees in their 50s have lived in 13 different cities with XOM...not uncommon. XOM doesn't understand that this doesn't fit the mold of younger generations. -Bureaucratic
