Stuck in FDM Contract

Pros

People I have met at FDM

Cons

Poor pay structure (18k + daily bonus to get you just above the threshold to start paying back student loan) Try talk to company about overtime pay & weekend work and negotiation of pay is like trying to get blood out of a stone Poor Holiday booking system (Has to be approved by FDM and client) Training not worth £20,0000, I could have done this job without even going to university and probably got paid more. Account manager & HR just as useless as each other - when you try to ask about negotiation of pay within first 2 years of contract they stop responding to emails. FDM are like flamingos - Pretty to look at but they're pretty useless Charge clients ridiculous amounts and give "contractors" bare minimum Daily rate is a joke - very unclear of what you are getting paid. If you miss work for a numerous amount of days within a month, then you won't be paying your student loan back. So in addition to your £20k debt with FDM if you leave in the first 2 years, you have the interest on the £50k debt that has been accumulated whilst studying for the last 4 years. If you get placed with a client anywhere in the UK that you don't want to go to, you have to drop your bags immediately and go there like a sheep Interesting how they have just updated their website with "modern slavery act" in January this year - I'm pretty sure this is due to a lot of people in their first 2 years of FDM that do not agree with what FDM are doing Heard from people external to FDM that Account Managers make fake reviews on this website to make them look a bit credible FDM pressure you to saying that you are a "Consultant" but truthfully you're just another number to them and as long as they charge their clients whatever they're charging, then they don't really care Reason to why they're the most "multi-cultural" and winning all these awards is so that they can literally put them out into the working world and get money out of you. Even if you've made them more than the £20k you owe them you can not leave. Literally cannot find any way out of the contract so have to d enjoy the ride of being a graduate in the "working world"

Pros

-Difficult to see any as this is the modern exploitation under a modern, civilised and educated society cover. -Good training for fundamentals.

Cons

no transparency, no accountability, no respect of people. It could take place in a science fiction movie. people's conduct driven by processes, no space to exchange, discuss.. and even less to think. No discussion about who you are, the skills you are bringing. Account managers focused on .. the figures I guess. Trainees, new group arrive every day, are a real commodity. Do not be fooled by the speech made at the assessment day, quite well done and a nice one. The reality is quite different. The "success" and the fact the company is growing shows how the market is small and difficult for young people. to get in. If you value your self, move forward, look for other roads. you are better than that!

I’m pleased you enjoyed the initial training, but I’m very sorry that you wouldn’t recommend joining us. We appreciate that the programme may not suit everyone, which is why we try to be as transparent as possible and go through the model as well as all the terms and conditions, during the assessment process. There is a 2 week ‘cooling off’ period after starting for you to really work out if FDM is the right career move also. Our people are the most important part of the business and I’m really sorry that it didn’t work out for you. If you believe that anyone disrespected you in any way I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further so that I can personally investigate. Possibly the worst graduate scheme..

Pros

Central London location. That's about it.

Cons

- Unpaid training, with hardly any support other than reclaiming travel bursary, this is particularly hard if you are placed in London and aren't from the city - therefore very hard if you invest so much of your time/money/effort into a company, when you receive so little back - The company itself only care about fast tracking you through the initial training and therefore the structure of the training and learning is AWFUL. To say it is worth around 20k, I wouldn't pay a penny towards it. - The actual training content from the teachers themselves is pretty pathetic too. There is definitely not much support or mentoring that they brag about, as you really do not have any spare time to balance the amount of work they give you and the trainers do not like to waste their time to help you out of lesson hours. - You are expected to learn modules from scratch in the space of 4 days and be examined on it. Then move on to the next course the following week.. I don't know how the company thinks people (especially fresh graduates) can learn something that is so fast paced and so new in such little time. They are trying to cram the training in as quick as possible in order for them to sell you on to their clients. - You are expected to pass every module, however it is not mentioned to you prior to when you receive the job, that if you fail to meet their "75%' pass rate expectations, and the attempt to resit, you are chucked off the training course on the same day. People were literally 'escorted' out and made to leave the building straight away, just by not reaching FDM's 'prestigious' expectations - again, this is terrible for some candidates that would have invested a lot into this scheme, and had not been told about the training procedure at the start. - Hardly any support is given to the students whilst on training, particularly if you have retakes. You are expected to do everything by yourself, alongside studying for a new module the next week (along with pointless presentations/"elevator pitches (!?)) - Account managers are treated as if they are Gods for some odd reason. The company seems to be very cut-throat. Nearly every day they are holding assessment days, which really demonstrates the culture of the company - you are just a number to them that they want to quickly shift out to their clients. They pay you a measly 21k in your first year, whilst at the same time making so much money off of you. Definitely DO NOT recommend this graduate scheme as it's business model gives no incentives to the individual. It is both mentally straining and can be emotionally stressful for some individuals that do not have a background in IT/Business, especially as absolutely NO support if given to the trainees.

I’m sorry to hear that you didn’t enjoy the experience and that you wouldn’t recommend FDM. We appreciate that the programme may not suit everyone, which is why we go through the model and all the terms and conditions, during the assessment process and anyone can drop out in the first two weeks. We present the whole programme including the commitment by FDM and the commitment from you to FDM. The training is challenging and fast faced in order to set our consultants up for success on client sites. The industry moves quickly and our people are expected to pick up new skills and learn at the same pace. The vast majority of consultants progress to have extremely lucrative careers. I’m really sorry that it didn’t work out for you though. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss your feedback further if you’re up for it.
