Pros

Providing a valuable public service that involves helping people, a physically, mentally and intellectually demanding job with dynamic settings, very often exciting, a flexible schedule, generally very well liked by the public, good insurance and pension.

Cons

There is often extreme physical danger with the possibility death or severe injury, working overnight, weekends and holidays, wearing heavy gear in the summer and being outdoors for long periods of time in the cold, repeated exposure to toxins/carcinogens which could lead to long term health issues.

Flexible shifts. Everyday brings something new. Good pay and great employees. Numerous training to keep you abreast and unlimited options for moving up or layers in the department

Cons

Work in all weather elements. Sometimes you get mandated to stay past your regular hours. Faulty equipment

It is an excellent City agency to work for. There is a sense of belonging and teamwork among the co-workers. The job, overall is very supportive of its employees.

Cons

The shift work can wreak havoc on your sleep schedule and your personal life, but you are compensated for it.
