Pros

Good benefits. Smart colleagues.

Cons

Pay is low for the requirements to get a technical job (some of our interns have masters degrees). Total ivory tower perspective and too many old timers who go with the flow and are afraid of innovation. Lots of middle management issues with no training or accountability. Heavily beaurecratic and painful to move at any reasonable pace or expect support for creative ideas. Many of the admistrative staff have no idea what we do. No support for junior staff to move up or have a voice. CEO is a clueless doof who gives political, opaque answers to everything. CSO thinks he’s royalty and looks down on most. Other 5th floor management are so disconnected they don’t matter. Always under budgeting for projects so lots of unbilled extra work. Proposals come with little training and lots of extra hours and expectation.

Pros

I've been here awhile. A lot of wonderful people have stuck around, though the smart ones are generally unhappy. The work is often intellectually rewarding and sometimes even inspiring.

Cons

The exec level, as everyone here notes, is terrible. They just don't understand our business in any meaningful way. So they can't identify problems, let alone fix them, and instead invest in vanity projects. You can't even really get mad at them - they are what they are - though you can certainly spare some disgust for the board, which can't be moved to stanch the bleeding. Much talent has fled. I'll be gone soon too.

Pros

Good people in lower level positions doing great work without recognition, good benefits

Cons

No investment in staff training, no advancement potential unless you are in the right clique
