Pros

Very high pay for the local area. Decent pay for nationwide average. Low stress work environment. Medium level challenge and if you are willing, ability to seek opportunities for growth although you will initiate this yourself. Autonomy in what you do. Self-directing, self-leading, independent type of work. Very hands off. Employer is generally positive in meetings and general emails. No overtime permitted. In relation to other positions in the legal field, this pays pretty well and is prestigious. It will help build your resume and you can learn valuable skills. You will never answer an email or call after the day ends, so there is no stress to bring work home. This is a huge plus.

Cons

Employer and support staff do the minimum and do not phrase emails in a friendly or polite tone. Zero communication with your employer unless initiated from the employee. No communication with the customer unless the contractor frequently initiates it. You must seek out the opportunity and although it is limited, there may be some opportunity to grow but you will not be encouraged from your employer. No support from Human Resources or staff unless you initiate it 100% of the time. Even then, you feel like you are burdening them with questions. Employer assumes the worst until corrected at which point they are a bit more friendly and understanding. Customer and employer relationship causes confusion and difficulty when communicating. Much secrecy between the customer and the employer, so much so that you won't know the results of your performance review. Pay is non negotiable, does not increase, no opportunities for training unless offered by the customer, no advancement unless in limited circumstances. Required daily tracking of time. You won't know if you have a stable job with pay if you are in a contract renewal period.

Pros

The only pro was to get work knowledge on the field

Cons

No room for growth; no overtime allowed; HR won’t listen to your concerns or make efforts to address problems whatsoever ; new ideas are not welcomed; company will cover supervisors errors without listening to staff members; no training provided so you learn on the go; benefits are limited and health care is actually expensive. Expect to live pay check by paycheck

Pros

Good place to start if you want to get a sense of what it’s like to be in the gov’t field.

Cons

Gov’t workers treat their contractual counterparts horrible. We get paid much less than gov’t employees performing the same job.
