Pros

There are some really talented writers that work for the brand.

Cons

Management is nothing short of a dumpster fire. There are a lot of egos making decisions. Farm Journal will tell you how much they value their employees but those are very empty words. During my time, I saw multiple people laid off and then replacements brought in, which were also laid off within months. There is also a very clicky culture within the workplace that includes people in management. If you are a writer, then your advancement opportunities are very limited. You will also work a lot of outside hours for no more compensation and no thanks. This is largely due to the company piling multiple responsibilities onto employees, making it hard to actually do what they were hired to do. When I started the position, I loved my job. I kicked butt every day and was highly motivated to perform. However, all of the issues with management, empty promises for raises and lack of any kind of leadership completely sucked the life out of my enthusiasm and enjoyment of work within three years. Honestly, it was the most toxic place I've ever worked.

We appreciate the feedback and we are sorry you didn’t have a better experience at The Farm. We’ve worked hard to improve communication and have implemented several methods of anonymous feedback, and we are happy to report that as recently as last week’s survey, our employee experience is positive, and our employees feel supported. We do take all feedback very seriously and appreciate the opportunity to make Farm Journal a better place to work. Thank you!

Pros

The best decision I ever made in my career was to join Farm Journal. The company has offered me tremendous opportunity to expand and do the things I enjoy the most while supporting me in areas I am not as well suited for.

Cons

The company is expanding and growing quickly which can make for an ever changing environment. Those not well equipped to pivot quickly could find themselves frustrated.
