Cons

As a claims adjuster, you are constantly being measured by a certain matrix. That matrix basically determines your pay increase and bonus. There are certain performance measurements within the matrix that make zero sense, while plenty of other job related skill sets are not considered. This system is archaic and does not accurately reflect what each individual is capable of. The amount of work that is assigned is more than most people can handle in a week. When you approach your direct supervisor about it, they say things like “would you like to be moved to a different department” or “other people can handle it”…. Currently, there are several people on leaves of absence because the stress from the workload is unbearable. If you can’t keep up, they say to work overtime but overtime is a matrix that is measured against you (how much overtime you use per claim)…. So it’s a double edged sword. Plus, not all employees want to work overtime. It’s not a requirement and it has an effect on “work life balance” that Farmers once used to pride itself, but now seems to be lost. The tone in the workforce is “do more, do better, reach the goals” but also “you don’t deserve a raise, I need to see more matrix results, stop complaining”. It’s actually a very unhealthy work environment and most people’s definition of working for corporate America. We are extremely replaceable. We are not supported. We are expected to produce like machines.
