Pros

MONEY. The HR Team does a fantastic job at hiring awesome people. I can truly call some of these people life-long friends. The people who work here are amazing individuals, but I really do not know anyone that is truly happy and feeling fulfilled working here. Relocation- can be a con for some people. You will more than likely be sent to a state capitol. Some are desirable, some are not.

Cons

Money is great, but there is really no point to it, if you do not have a life or anything to spend said money on. When I started with FAST, I was used to working long hours in order to finish a deliverable. I did not think the lack of work-life balance would really be a problem for me. I was wrong. Before you sign up, you have to understand that FAST will become your life. You will definitely be pulling close to a 60 hour work-week for at least 6 consecutive months. As you can see, my position was a Training Coordinator which does not seem that taxing, but overtime is even more extreme for the software developers. FAST grossly normalizes working overtime so that it is nothing special, it is expected of you and you can still get yelled at for not working enough, even if your work day started at 7 am and it is still 9:30 pm and there is no end in sight. No one will be impressed by your ambition to work hard or sacrifice spending time with special people in your life. This lifestyle is extremely hard on significant others, as FAST demands all your time and emotional capacity. If I could give Work/Life Balance on this review, 0 stars, I would. FAST says that all project sites are different and they pride themselves on not micro-managing project managers on how to run their project sites. This sounds great in theory, but in practice, it is a nightmare. Sexual harassment is abundant; HR knows this and refuses to take any meaningful action. From my experience, the leadership in management roles were a joke. My project site still expected some people to work in the office throughout COVID-19 and still demanded very intense work-loads.

Regarding COVID, we have been fortunate to continue working and supporting our clients, most of whom have been deemed as essential services of their jurisdictions. Many of our sites have had increased demands due to providing these essential services to our clients. Our mission continues to be singular: to provide on-time, on-budget and high-quality software to our government clients. To support that mission, we will continue to follow our client’s and jurisdiction regulations on work from home. Each FASTie will have different circumstances and should talk to their Project Manager about individual concerns and what options are available to them. Regarding bonus time, the company average for the past three years has been under 10% bonus time. Project Managers and others monitor bonus time hours, while there will be times employees work over 40 hours a week, this does not happen in long stretches of time. FAST significantly values a safe and professional workplace for all employees. Employees participate in annual trainings and education. We continually are working to improve Diversity, Inclusion and Acceptance efforts company-wide and this includes training opportunities and D, I and A initiatives. FAST takes all harassment claims seriously. Often, due to the nature of a complaint, employees are not included in all conversations, action to correct and follow-up that happen with the other employee(s). If you feel a behavior or action was not addressed, we hope you brought this up and did something about it.

Pros

- Great pay with annual performance-based raises - Great benefits - Increasingly open review process with regular feedback meetings scheduled throughout the year - Young, outgoing, intelligent coworkers - Best product on the market - Opportunities to relocate every few years (handled and paid for by the company) - Tonnes of job security--this company is only growing - Monthly team-building activities paid for by the company - Annual General Meeting, all inclusive 3 night stay at resort for employee and their families - Company owners are still in the trenches working hard alongside you - Company owners seem to really value employee health and happiness - You can learn a lot, tonnes of different skills and opportunities. Even more as the company continues to grow

Cons

- Relocating can be tough - You don't always get to decide where you relocate (often you have input, but it largely depends on the current need) - A few bad eggs can make your experience on a site stressful

Pros

Fast, even at the 1000+ size it is, still cares deeply about each and every employee. Their benefits, even the way they help people move, the way they bring individuals AND their spouses/families into the culture, it super impressive and I love that about Fast. The work we do is serious in terms of being important work - our clients are generally very positive to work with and welcoming, so it is a pleasant place to be day-to-day. I don't think I would find another company where growth and actual personal improvement and opportunity is better - FAST really cares and wants both our clients and our employees to succeed. This doesn't mean that there aren't times where thing get tough for a time, or you have to solve a big problem that is new to you, but the resources are there to work through those things and keep on moving.

Cons

Any con I can think of is also a pro depending on how you look at it. Occasional relocation is also an opportunity to experience a new place and city. Occasional overtime is also an opportunity to make $.
