Pros

- Flexible hours if you're a student - good place to learn a little bit about inventory management/tools/fasteners - Responsible for essentially running the store while OSP/GM are out on sales calls - Looks good on a resume

Cons

- NO FORMAL TRAINING, this is seriously the worst aspect of the job. They expect you to learn things by yourself, or get taught by the online courses. 1.) there's hardly any time to pay consistent attention to the online courses when you're constantly answering the phone, sourcing/pulling product, and helping walk in customers. If you don't learn the minute details of the job then you get yelled at for not picking up the pace. - the job can get VERY boring. Let's face it, fasteners aren't the most interesting thing in the world. - Expected to do a lot with very little guidance.

Pros

Dodge Ram delivery trucks, opportunity to build a career, meet new people, learn how to run a business, fairly easy going.

Cons

I was had 3 interviews over 3 months with 3 different managers. They all seemed to like me and i eventually got the job. I was studying sales at the time in college and knew a few people who worked for Fastenal. They liked it and felt they were getting good experience for a career once they graduated. I started the job and things were going fine, but I was in the truck with my branch manager one morning to go pick our other truck from the shop, and when we got back, I didn't have a job any more. He didn't take much time to get to know me, didn't like what he did or didn't see in me, and let me go after 5 days. I worked for a small, 4 person branch. I was let go, the other PT sales support guy went to ROTC camp shortly after, and our branch manager left for a better job in a different city at the end of the next week. 3 out of 4 people in my branch left in 2 weeks. Turnover is crazy at Fastenal. Anyone can get a job there, but not all of those people are qualified. I've heard all sorts of other things about all the bad in this company that these reviews seem so corroborate. Stay away.

Pros

Be part of a large company with millions of dollars in sales. HUGE employee discount, you pay the cost plus 5% markup instead of 60%. Paid training. Drive a nice dodge ram truck occasionally

Cons

When you get to teh nuts and bolts of it (haha sorry I had to), its a very boring tedious job. Counting different size bolts doing inventory checks of 2500 parts. It's a lot of work for not a great wage. Can get boring with only 2-4 co-workers in a warehouse they call a retail store. Better off getting a more interesting job and a more interesting company than one that sells fasteners.
