Pros

There are opportunities to move up, however, you must be willing to move most of the time. Expecting to become management at the same location you start is misguided, but possible. The benefits are fantastic.

Cons

When you start out, you will be working roughly 17.5 hours unless you are very lucky. After some time in your position, you will be senior enough to get more hours, training, and paid time off.

Good work life balance

Pros

Working at FedEx can definitely balance your work life and personal life, as almost everyone can leave work on time. I am talking about FedEx in Asia, which long working hours is the norm.

Cons

If you want to keep advancing your career at FedEx, you have to pray that the global economy can stay healthy for a long period of time because as soon as there is little sign of economic down turn, FedEx will have hiring freeze and no new position or promotion will take place. This has happened during 5 of my 8 years tenure.

Pros

Better benefits working part-time than you do working full-time with other companies It's an airline so you get flight discounts after 6 months of employment (at airports at least, don't know how it works for them at stations) Easy work, don't really have to think much Able to transfer wherever you want since they're everywhere (about to relocate 2,000 miles in a few weeks) Work with good people Managers are nice Job is pretty secure, kind of hard to move operations overseas for cheaper labor, have to do something really stupid to get fired Don't have to join a union Don't have to deal with customers We get first crack at new jobs posted since they hire and try to promote from within first You get paid for 17.5 hours if you clock in on time and are there every day even if you are on the clock for less than that. Starting pay is a few dollars an hour above minimum wage

Cons

Weather can make the work hard Getting used to tugging with four dollies Usually have to wait a year to transfer to another facility unless the job is posted with a waiver of your time commitment The last week of November to Christmas eve is hectic, freight triples but at least you get more hours, they don't hire seasonal workers to keep the hours the same and you can volunteer to do double shifts. Hours can be tough to get used too if you're at a ramp (airport) Don't get too many hours between January and October
