Managing at FedEx Ground

Pros

Senior managers set their own hours. You're held accountable for all the results of your station. You're in charge of development, discipline, terminating, recruiting employees. You generally have staffing levels set to run an efficient operation. Excellent benefits package when compared to other companies in the transportation industry. Invested in online training of their employees.

Cons

Little control over the bonus as it's more corporate performance driven. Peak season in December usually means working 6 days a week with vacations blacked out between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Every district is run differently and held to different standards as the directors have freedom to operate as they see fit. Sometimes difficult to complete training while doing your regular job duties. Sometimes the pressure to show positive results can be detrimental to integrity.

Good work, bad managers

Pros

If you enjoy physical labor and being outside all day, then this is a pretty good job. Co-workers run the gamut from awesomely helpful to incredibly lazy. Full-time couriers can often make plenty of overtime. Great job for those who value independence and being on your own. Part-timers can get access to full health benefits.

Cons

Managers have little to no interpersonal skills, and interacting with them is often the worst part of your day. Part-time couriers get the shaft, with not enough hours to live on, and constantly changing schedules. Hard to get time off, even if it's your vacation.

Pros

Health Benefits/Low Cost and two weeks vacation your first year which is nice. After five years you receive three weeks, ten years you receive four and twenty you receive five.

Cons

Low pay compared to competitors . You are expected to work holidays. With it being such a huge company you would think there's opportunity for advancement but there is not.
