Pros

Health, dental, vision, 401k, pension, vacation, gym, wellness programs, flexibility with hours, friendly and professional environment, training, and similar benefits are wonderful. There is a lot of great opportunity to learn and grow if you get in the right position (and there is flexibility to move around). Recent changes within my department are moving in the right direction as far as empowering people to think for themselves, consolidating our technology stack, and getting rid of some of the older technology, and having a more open channels of communication between various areas.

Cons

Senior management is very stubborn about certain things, like I'm sure is the case in many companies. For example, the most casual attire you are typically permitted to wear is business casual. They also insist that none of our employees can work from home effectively, even though that is clearly not true. Several employees have had equal or greater performance when working from home, but are still not permitted to do so even though the governor said that those who could should continue to do so. They have not offered any good justification for this decision, and don't seem to care that we object, or that the order says that. We continue to lose much of our best talent because of this. Additionally, there is a large disconnect between the business side of things and the IT side of things. Often IT will be strong-armed into doing things that are impossible to do correctly/safely. Part of the culture is to be accommodating to others, and often gets so ingrained into people's heads that they often don't stand up for what is right or what is good long-term. On the opposite side of things, people often do not own all aspects of what they are working on because they believe certain parts to be someone else's job. People need to think and do things more for themselves instead of blindly passing work off to others.

Pros

Some good opportunities if you live near an office Benefits are decent for claims if you plan to stay one place forever Moderate level of independence on file handling

Cons

Not allowed to work from home even if you have a job done completely over the phone and email. Only when the pandemic was in the early stages was everyone able to work at home. Despite the many surges in cases that eclipsed those numbers, they still forced people to go to the office just to sit in their cubes despite nothing going wrong with claims handling while everyone was working from home. Must wear a mask all day even when alone at your desk just because of their out of touch ideas of office culture trumps everything else. Nobody actually cleans shared spaces when they’re done so you have to use the office fridge and other things that you know others have been touching with truly no way to avoid cross contamination with your own belongings. We can’t even have meetings. We literally still have meetings over Skype yet we are forced to do so while in the office. The exact same tech but forcing people to go to the cesspool of an office to use it. With the many corporate level benefits of switching to work from home at least at the regional offices (no more lease costs, attract and hire in all 50 states for any position, etc) you would think that they would at least consider some future that includes work from home for at least some positions, but they won’t. Work from home decreases costs of living for employees and decreases corporate spending. It’s a no brainer.

Pros

The company 8 years ago...best place to work

Cons

Lack of integrity, honesty, morals, respect, and professionalism. Middle management creates frat party like atmosphere. No cohesion between sales and home office. Very much a cult like environment.
