Pros

Room for growth, but will not be fast.

Cons

Management at the branch level can be very poor with little oversight and effort for improvement.

Pros

The IT Group in Newport News was great for me. My boss was one of the best I have ever had. She was considerate and thoughtful of me even during a difficult time in my life. Better than average pay for the area (Newport News, Va.) with bonuses, 401Ks, and annual raise. Lovely people with great senses of humor in our group. I would recommend this company.

Cons

After joining the company, I was left to myself, (after initial training), my team was spread out to other projects. The IT departments seemed to continually work against themselves. Lack of communications on changes made in one group would severely impact another without warning. Very poor change management process. There were frequent changes between high-level goals or projects. One would start and be interrupted by a new "hot" button. Work load would shift from one priority to another without prior notice. Without any advance notice people can be fired because a senior manager doesn't like you or feel you’re doing the job well enough. No chance given for any corrective action or to fix a perception just let go without specifics as to why. People would get fired and walked out that day without any prior notice - mostly QA people. Most of that seemed personality driven vs. ability driven. Managers should try to work with people to fix issues first. Otherwise Ferguson was a positive experience in many ways.
