Pros

Colleagues; Cafeteria; Benefits; Licensing Process

Cons

I left Fidelity Investments due to my manager and the position itself. I was a Customer Relationship Advocate (fully trained and licensed) and each day on the phones was anxiety-inducing. I did not feel properly trained, nor did I feel comfortable answering a ton of questions on margin balances, options, etc., and despite that, I was not supported further. Just about every day, I would get yelled at by clients, and yet nothing was done. There were also very few breaks from the phones, and I woke up each morning dreading work and realizing just how miserable this position was. At one point, I had to go on a medical leave and I think I went 5 weeks without hearing from my manager. He did not respond to any of the emails I sent to him, he did not check in on me, and generally, he seemed to care very little about the associates; instead, he was very focused on the metrics instead. All of this contributed to a sub-par experience.

Pros

- Good benefits - Large company, so many networking opportunities - Unlikely to be insolvent any time soon

Cons

- Ideas come from the top and the top only. As a result innovation is non-existent. - Expect role-creep with no adjustment to compensation. - Toxic culture; unnecessary hostility and political nonsense frequently hinders productivity.

Pros

If you love creating complex, untraceable bugs and a 9-5 M-F paycheck, there’s no better place than Fidelity

Cons

No “Agility” Knowledge, expertise and creativity are all liabilities You’ll report to young veterans whose whole engineering careers has been at Fidelity. These out of college lifers will lecture you in software design and “best practices” These best practices are expected to produce serious bugs which are “normal” and “part of life” You’ll be very busy adhering to Einstein definition of insanity as you create more bugs while fixing an old one. Your “completed”, months overdue, deliverables will also entertain customers, who’ll find fascinating features as they test your application in production and with real money
