Pros

The home office will pay for all of your licensing (I received SIE, Series 6, 63, & 65). The San Diego branch has many advisors that genuinely want you to succeed.

Cons

By their words they will never admit that they want you to focus on selling life insurance but by their actions (mainly their compensation structure and short 6 month salary) you either find clients with millions to rollover into managed accounts or you sell life insurance to active duty military. At the end of 6 months you're 100% commission dependent and will have a ~$1,500 monthly office bill due on top of the basic cost of living in San Diego. This company is great if your young and willing live on a tight budget for 3-5 years possible working a second job to supplement the lack of income or if you're someone who has a pension income who's looking for a second career. Otherwise this company positions itself as a stepping stone to get licensed.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We are glad you've taken advantage of our training resources, including coverage for the licenses you'll need to operate as an Independent Advisor with First Command. We've taken note of your comments about the challenges Advisors face in the early stages of a career, especially related to the approach you think you need to take to establish a new business. First Command does not believe in selling any one particular product. Instead, we focus on creating a holistic financial plan for our clients, understanding their goals on their path to financial security, and coaching them on the behaviors necessary to reach those goals. Our coaches match specific products and services that support our clients' financial objectives. We only seek advisors committed to this coaching philosophy, and we recognize that it does not suit all applicants.

Pros

The schedule is what you make it, but if you’re not scheduling meeting your not making money. The office environment was great and very social.

Cons

Marketing and advertising is very limited because of industry regulations. If you do not have a military background it is challenging to find clients. Client segment is very small as the services offered are almost exclusive for military personnel.

Thank you for sharing your experience as a First Command Financial Advisor. We are committed to creating and sustaining a supportive culture that inspires our employees and Advisors and makes them feel appreciated and a part of the First Command family. One of our most valuable offerings is the Fast Start program, which provides intense professional development to prepare new people for success as independent Advisors. Some of the benefits of that program include paying new Advisors during the training and licensing period and offering a full array of employee benefits. Through the program, our Advisors learn how to build and grow their own business, serve new clients and provide quality, face-to-face financial coaching. Through this hard work and dedication, they learn how to coach our clients to become financially disciplined and confident in their pursuit of financial security. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for sharing your experience.
