Pros

One of the first things that drew me to First Hawaiian Bank was the fact that it is the biggest bank in Hawaii. With this in mind they offer great benefits that really help once you get past the vested period of 1 year. The training department is great and when you actually get time to train you can learn as much as you can intake. Also, depending upon where you decide to work or where the openings are, some of the branches are new and feel great. Working in almost any of the branches is great as most have had some upgrading in the past few years.

Cons

Training is slow at some branches. Pay is the lowest compared to other financial institutions. Unless you have someone you know in the system, achievements don't do all that much. Basically like most business in Hawaii, there is something know as the Hawaiian Style of management or work. Of course it really depends upon the people you work with, but most of the people who have been in the business for a while are not really interested in moving up, ie. no drive or ambition. This is the marked difference between people who have experience in the mainland and those who have been in hawaii all their life. if you are aggressive and impatient, this is not the bank for you.

Pros

FHB has been is business for 150 years and is very stable. It's such a stable company that most employees never leave, I personally know several people who have worked here for 30-40 years. Great co-workers, most everyone tries their best to work as a team and provide the customer with good service.

Cons

Very poor pay, micromanagement by Senior Mgt. - difficult to get things done when you constantly need Senior Management approval, people are promoted not by ability but by length of employment and "who you know"
