Pros

If you’re looking for a great way to learn more in the power industry the local utility in NJ is on the forefront of change in an industry that seems to have been historically stagnant. There is a huge need for young and experienced talent to come and support in entry/mid/senior level engineering roles. Compensation is relatively competitive- if you’re looking for stability this is a great career for you. Expect to work some weekends, nights, holidays etc. role is in operations salary plus OT for most engineers.

Cons

Corporate culture and work life balance can use some improvement hopefully with restructuring, migration to modern systems and many automation efforts the future will be better. It can be frustrating at times when corporate would sacrifice long term investment (in infrastructure, work force etc) for short term capital gains to please shareholders. This can be a common denominator with many publicly traded companies especially investor owned utilities.
