Pros

work with a great team of people who have experience from a lot of industries / gain valuable experience working for a public company / steady pay check / easy working hours with little stress

Cons

when I interviewed for the job, I asked what FIserv could do to advance my career in a practical way. I was promised mentorship, continuing education, industry events, and opportunities for promotion. Instead of working on new projects, most of my work has been migrating services from domestic teams to new, outsourced teams. Not that fun or challenging.

Pros

great stock options, good people to work with, good technology

Cons

Fiserv is a holding company for many divisions that have no history of working together. Current leadership can't bring these separate silos together, so there is a lack of team work, communication, and even vision for the company. This is especially true for the technology department. Management in our office (NJ) is incompetent. Many jobs are being outsourced to India or Philippines, so job security is always in doubt. A few other cons: - pay is less than other companies in the area... They don't account for living in the NYC area. - bonuses are insubstantial - raises are rarely given - promotions are even rarer

Pros

I like most of my immediate team, and the pay is competitive. I got good experience learning about the finance industry.

Cons

Company politics suck and take up at least 40-50% of my week, and I don't get to focus on developing and writing code. Instead, I spend my time justifying my projects, giving updates, and justifying my projects again. Recently after spending 4 weeks working on a project that had been approved by the director, it was cancelled with no explanation. I just want to work -- not play politics. Because of the tough atmosphere, it's hard to grow and move up in the organization unless you're a personality type A person who is willing to play management's games. I do not recommend!
