Pros

Good Cafe Plan, some training opportunity

Cons

Fiserv is a huge step down from CheckFree. Fiserv moved our department from the wonderful CheckFree campus to a horrible gray low-wall cubicle farm, and stopped the two-days-work-from-home program. My manager had very little knowledge of the technology. A task description was typically one sentence, and she didn't understand that sometimes a one-sentence task can take weeks to accomplish by even the best informed and most capable staff. She left all of the details to the assignee, and often gave conflicting or overlapping assignments. When you have a problem, don't expect any input or help from her. She expects you to even do her job. Your job is to make her "shine" for the other managers that also don't understand the technology. And co-workers were usually of no help, they are reluctant to share any valuable information because they had to work so hard to get it too. Or sometimes, they knew the test methods they were using were bogus and didn't want anyone else to find out. (In one case I could never find any evidence the test was ever really done.) You pretty much need to hit the cold wall every time you ask a question and finally figure it out yourself. A very harsh environment. If you have only the technology skills then you will be bullied. If you only have the skill to kiss up, then Fiserv is perfect for you. You only need to talk all day and do nothing. The QA Manager doesn't care about, or even understand, quality and only cares about how to get promoted. The worst part was this manager didn't keep her word and often lied, so of course she doesn't trust you or anybody else. And the other management (and even HR) seems to think it is OK for her to lie, even when it is so obvious that everyone has to know.

Pros

The best reason to work here is if you want to collect a paycheck while working on another venture. I can do my entire week's worth of work in about 10 hours and the rest of the time is free to do what I want. Other perks include a company paid cell phone, random discounts, laid back work environment (where I am b/c I'm in a remote office). I have a boss who is so checked out, I haven't seen him in weeks... that might be a plus for some people!

Cons

The biggest downside of working at Fiserv is a general attitude of mediocrity. No one seems interested in producing something that is worthwhile, something that we can all be proud of or excited about. People come in, do their work and leave and don't seem at all invested or engaged. My manager is a perfect example-- he comes in, sits on conference calls about 6 of his 8 hrs in office, has no interest in what we're working on. In fact, he cancelled out weekly touch-base meetings because "they were pointless". Our division hasn't been profitable in 6 years straight and he's content to just sit on the sinking ship as it goes down. This company only values Sales b/c that's where the CEO gets his million dollar bonuses from. They could care less about anyone else in the company. Recognition is non-existent. Salary is mediocre at best. Raises are at best 3% but we had several years in the rocky financial period where we got nothing. The health benefits are terrible. The level of incompetence at this company is through the roof. I have never worked somewhere where people just genuinely do not care about what they produce and that is rampant at this company. Customers frequently come in b/c of the big name and are almost always disappointed when they see us in action. it's embarrassing and our CEO is so far removed, he has no clue. In addition, they are trying to integrate many business units into what they call "One Fiserv". Its a total joke, I have no idea what most divisions of Fiserv do, and it's nearly impossible to find out. The internal intraweb is impossible to navigate, again due to no one caring to fix it. I have stayed for 6 years because I had other things to focus on and this was a perfect "easy" job to come in to and collect a paycheck but I have grown so disillusioned with this place... I feel like the apathy is contagious!
