Pros

It is fun to learn about the feedyard and do all of the fun things like riding horses and operating heavy equipment. That is, until you realize that you didn't need to get your college degree to do this job.

Cons

Long hours (70-80) per week on average. Out in the elements no matter the weather. Work with people who are miserable in their jobs. As much as they say work life balance is important to them it really is not. You'll get asked to stay late a lot even if you had to be there at 2am for shipping starters. Yes there is room for upward growth but in the end, unless you are an AGM or GM, you're just another pair of hands.

Thank you for taking the time to review Five Rivers Cattle Feeding. We are glad that you had the chance to learn more about Feedlots with us. We take our role as a steward of the land and the cattle in our care seriously. We accept responsibility for the well-being of the cattle entrusted to us and ensure they are kept healthy and treated humanely. With that being said, you are correct! Jobs in agriculture can have this special demand in hours and can create some long weeks (average workweek being 50-55 hours per week). This important work is not for everyone, and we know that. It takes a passion for the land and cattle to be successful, and we wouldn't have it any other way.

We encourage our employees to maintain balanced lives and to grow and develop both personally and professionally. We know that at Five Rivers Cattle Feeding we have the responsibility to feed cattle 360 days a year. Sometimes that means long hours for us, full days, and a challenge. A challenge that we take on with a huge amount of pride and ownership. We know cattle feeding is a huge responsibility and one that we are honored to have even if the hours are long some days.
