Fantastic place to work if you find the right department or team

Pros

Flexibility, accomplishment, department culture, values, and leadership. If you find the right department or college within the FSU system, this can be a fun and fantastic place to work. My particular institute is very product-driven, so we have a clear understanding of what is expected of us, and how to succeed. Due to this, as well as the functionality/camaraderie of the team, our turnover rate is measured in decades, not years.

Cons

Parking and bureaucracy. Outside of that, when applying for work at Florida State University, find out the turnover rate for the area in which you're applying. If it's high, there is probably a good reason for it.

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Pros

I was able to have my full graduate school tuition waived as well as earned a stipend through working for FSU as a teaching assistant. It's low stress and highly rewarding!

Cons

The only downside to working this position was that some semesters, they tried to change my class assignments last minute after I had planned my semester around a certain schedule. However, I stood my ground and they understood.

Pros

Jobs offer a great benefits package as well as the option to pursue a graduate degree for free while receiving all benefits that students do (use of gym, parking, football tickets, etc). Salary leaves a bit to be desired, as do most public sector jobs, but many offices are understanding that younger graduates use the jobs for experience and a stepping stone. Many offices willing to help employees reach their goals

Cons

Only 2 real cons, which are salary and job ceiling. Being a public sector job, it is harder to get to get regular or substantial raises within the University. Many offices also have a ceiling that is difficult to get past and to advance your career it is often required to change offices or leave entirely.
