Bad lower management

Pros

Courses and conferences for professional development, free lunch, in-house gym with personal trainers, massage

Cons

There is a friction between development and trading on one side, management on the other. Newly formed lower product management is trying to establish themselves, worried about their own position, not caring about the well being of their team or the product. A lot form, less content. Software engineers are considered an expense, while traders take credit for the profit. Noisy office.

Thank you for taking the time to share your perspective. Your feedback is important to us. From your review, I see there are opportunities for us to work with our product managers and product owners about our approaches as a Technology department. I appreciate your willingness to be open and I am available to discuss any additional insight you’d like to share to ensure collaboration throughout our organization is productive and effective. I can only encourage people to raise their ideas and/or concerns in time and not only share them here. We are always trying to improve, so any sort of constructive criticism is welcome! Best regards, Thomas, Global Head of Technology

Pros

Company offers really nice perks: * gym; * lunches; * considerable bonuses; * any kind of snacks/drinks; * a divy bar with tapped beer or whisky if you prefer; * massage; * nutritionist consultation; * health checks. We even have our own boat (!) which anyone can take to explore Amsterdam canals. The company is really open to invest into our professional development. As a software engineer, I get the opportunity to go to different conferences and a have a separate budget for trainings/courses. I learn a lot from what I do day to day. The company tries to continuously improve and take into account employees feedback.

Cons

The job is hard as every task has many unknowns. Sometimes it is not clear what the management expects from you. The trading environment is very high passed and this is reflected in all the processes. There are a lot of security concerns (I guess for good reasons) and this impacts a bit the software development process.

Pros

The interview process is quite unique in the software development department. Rather than focusing on the technical skill set, the process is more oriented towards having the right team fit. If you have the right attitude there will be plenty of capable people to fill in the gaps you might have from a technical point of view. You can share your ideas and everything is up for debate. The working hours are very flexible and it totally depends to you if you want to spend the 8 hours or 12 hours to work. After hours activities are quite often so there is always some fun to have

Cons

Processes are sometimes slow and there is are some gaps in the communication between departments. If you want something to get done you should take the initiative yourself.
