Pros

The more I think about it, the less I find.

Cons

... that the ludicrous gender pay descrepency exists. I was on many occasions forced to supervise men, who had less education and experience then I did yet were paid more than I was. I was constantly threatened with my job, had disparaging remarks made to me about my gender, my motherhood, and on one occasion my misogynist boss screamed across the company cafeteria, "Hey, you're getting fat." I was also told that I wouldn't be considered for advancement because men needed a job more than I did, and I had a husband at home to take care of me. I felt like I was back in college where I couldn't get the best serving jobs because I wasn't blonde and skinny and gorgeous. In fact I have seen several very uneducated and unqualified women advance at Fluor due solely to their looks and willingness to flirt (and unfortunately probably do more than just flirt.) I was told point-blank that I had no control of my career while I was there, and that the menfolk knew what was best for me. Fluor disgusts me.

Pros

I was kept very busy. I was at Fluor 24 years and was engaged in many diverse assignments

Cons

Fluor is a very sophisticated company and am I sad to say that I was cheated and lied to on a number of occasions. Prospective employees should be very careful but any employmnet is better than no employmnet. The performance rating system is totally biased. The system appears to be fair but is not objective and based on the opinion of high level managers.

Pros

Fluor, a construction and engineering firm, is an ethical company with an intelligent employee base, i.e. engineers, attorneys, etc. Fluor is well respected in the construction industry, and is a good company for learning the dos and don'ts in this industry, and stresses a safety culture, and actual practices, that stand out in the industry.

Cons

Can be VERY difficult to promote in main office locations. MUST be willing to work at project locations to move forward in the majority of career paths at Fluor. This means willing to relocate frequently. For those seeking to work for a company who issues bonuses to the general workforce, this is NOT the place for you. Only those at fairly high levels in management receive bonuses. Overall benefits are not that great compared to other large corporations. The "good" benefits, again, are reserved for the uppermost tiers of management. This frustrates the vast majority of employees. Fluor has been down-sizing its employee base primarily due to downturn in the oil industry, so most departments are working in under staffed environments, which can prove to be very stressful.
