Pros

Analysts have the ability to define their own research streams, which offers a great deal of intellectual stimulation and fulfillment. For new analysts, there's huge opportunity for professional growth in areas like writing, speaking, and consulting. In addition to gaining notoriety through research reports, analysts can gain industry visibility through outlets like press quotes, TV spots, and conference speeches. The net effect of all of this is that analysts experience an enormous amount of professional growth in their first several years on the job. This can help you jump start your career or leapfrog others in your field. The Forrester cachet also makes it easy to land your next gig.

Cons

The analyst job can be grueling. While individual managers support the idea of work/life balance, the reality is that it's incredibly difficult for analysts to meet their quarterly goals without putting in a significant amount of time during evenings and weekends. There is also so much focus on meeting quarterly financial goals (i.e., consulting) that it's hard for analysts to get the mental space and time that they need to write high quality research. As analysts move up the ranks and become proficient in their jobs, there are fewer and fewer opportunities for advanced training and professional growth. Management has an uncanny way of instituting policies (e.g., bonus compensation) that drive down employee morale.

Pros

1. Forrester is a respected research and consulting company that gives employees legitimate and useful skills. 2. People are are very smart and consistently raise the bar. 3. Employees are given the freedom to work from almost anywhere. 4. A quarterly and yearly review methodology that helps employees develop individually and professionally.

Cons

1. The pay! Forrester relies on its name and reputation to attract qualified and smart people, so it doesn't care that its employees have to scrape by to pay bills. The majority of the analysts and higher-ups could make double anywhere else (what's stopping you!?!) 2. Training. There's just not enough training for research professionals. Employees are asked to learn things on their own time. 3. Socially awkward employees. Because so many of Forrester's research professionals are way too smart for their own good, they are very socially awkward. It's hard to hold a normal conversation with many of them, and no one ever says anything about it. It's an extremely strange work environment. 4. Work expectations are too high. When you have to work every night and weekend to meet your goals, it's probably too much. The work is not evenly spread and employees are asked to generate too much revenue.

Pros

Great people, exciting position, wonderful end user clients. Forrester has a great customer base.

Cons

Incompetent management, lack of leadership, quarter to quarter focus, role based research with no collaboration. Research lacks a seat at the table where a bunch of numbers dweebs try to make sense of a business that still requires a level of intuition. Stop focusing on the internal battles. Our enemy is outside of our 4 walls. Let's go beat Gartner and stop trying to follow them around. We need to hire replacements for our most senior analysts. When they leave, we have no replacement strategy. We have too many people in that add no value. We have 30 people that are non revenue generating that just work for the execs. They do fluffy activities of no value to us the working stiffs.
