      Pros

      The best people I've ever worked with. On the whole the employees and teams were very welcoming and friendly. Many people make the effort to get to know those in other teams and are always working hard but keen to have fun too. Good overall atmosphere and culture.

      Cons

      General communication was awful and the way employees were managed in and out of the company was unacceptable. There was a high turnover of staff during my employment, with a number of staff disappearing overnight with no communication or explanation - having been fired or terminated effective immediately. People who cared about the company and worked incredibly hard to improve and progress it were dropped without warning. The senior management can often be unprofessional and favouritism is rife. A number of fires, hires or promotions within the company appear to happen based on favouritism or lack there of. Individuals who were good at their job but weren't favoured by management would be dismissed and those with little experience or ability but friendly with management would be hired or promoted. When handled in an incredibly unprofessional manner, it's put down to Fourth not being very good at looking after their staff - something that simply isn't good enough!!

      We are very proud of the fact we have such great people here at Fourth so I am very pleased that you mentioned this in your post. Communication can always be improved and if we want to continue to grow as a company and keep our employees, motivated and informed, this is extremely important. In regards to promotions, where a new role becomes available, all interested employees are invited to apply for the role and will be interviewed. It is really important that we are transparent in our selection process and an open, fair interview process creates this foundation. As we continue to grow, I agree that we must protect our culture and act in accordance with our company values.

      Good hard working peers, atrocious management

      Pros

      Good people to work with. Good nights out. Good clients with good relationships. Good product, needs work, but a great concept.

      Cons

      I can't speak for the London office, but the bureau in Macclesfield became soul destroying. I worked there for over 3 years, first 2 were fantastic then the management changed, turnaround of about 60- 80 staff in the time I worked there which speaks for itself in an office that holds 60 members of staff. No people management, No bonuses (no matter what is promised) The management will overwork you if your capable, I have seen the strongest of personalities break.

      The employees of Fourth are some of the best people you could work with anywhere and I'm pleased this was reflected in your experience with us. In terms of our Bureau Operation in Macclesfield, we now have 2 senior leaders that support that Director of Bureau as well as a team of highly experienced payroll managers and supervisors. In addition, we have a CiPP approved payroll academy which can take someone through from a trainee with no experience to a fully accredited payroll manager. Whilst we don't have a formal bonus system, we regularly reward employees that truly embody our values - simple, honest, quality, enjoy. We aim to recognise the efforts people make frequently and fairly. As you advise, we will continue to look for ways to improve the employee experience at Fourth.
