Pros

The pros of freelance editing are the flexibility and the interesting nature of the work itself. In addition, the work tends to be very satisfying.

Cons

The cons are the uncertain nature of employment, and the disconnect between what authors need and what they think they need. Almost all authors need line editing; many need developmental editing as well. Most think that they need only copy editing or proofreading.
