Pros

There are some really talented and motivated folks at the site level. You can generally find support from colleagues at other sites and collaborate.

Cons

Seems like there are always "payroll" snafus at year-end which one could attribute to the need for the "cash reserves" to look better at year end close..the "payroll shorts" get resolved first week of new year subsequently. No matter how GE denies it, they do have FORCED RANKINGS within their EMS process; salary increases for exempt employees are skimpy and only given every 18-20 months.

Pros

1.) The work is challenging and rewarding 2.) Lots of opportunities to continue learning

Cons

1.) Poor pay. Management claims to pay market rate, but people leaving the company are getting 20%+ raises. Only after a recent exodus of young engineers did management start to offer salary adjustments, but not to everyone. So the ones who did not receive adjustments remain bitter. 2.) Poor Benefits. Medical Benefits changed to high deductible on short notice. Employees were given less than 2 months notice. People planning families would have to pay significantly more ($10k) for the birth of children. 3.) Hard to climb the ladder unless you have been pre-ordained on fast track. Too many incompetent people on fast track. 4.) Poor communication by leadership. Sometimes it seems like no one is steering the ship. 5.) Individual contributors being micro managed by VP of Engineering, at daily 5PM meetings.

Pros

Decent pay and raises besides 2009 when salary was frozen.

Cons

Lack of recognition for work done above and beyond what is required. GE is becoming extremely cheap. 3rd Party training/seminars are not promoted outside of the GE lunch sessions or getting a full-fledged advance degree. Technology is behind times. As of this year, even you do decided to pursue an advanced degree you'll be required to pay your tuition back if you leave the company within four years. STAY AWAY FROM ENGINEERING if your an IM/IT professional. Generally I've seen promotions take 2 years longer in this organization than other IT departments.
