      Interesting and challenging, but not the best compensation

      Pros

      An elite company with excellent products. Making some of the most high tech and groundbreaking products in the healthcare market today. Interesting projects to work on, and ownership may be given even to employees early in their career. The leadership/development programs (EEDP, OMLP, IMLP, etc) are also world renowned; employees that complete the training are highly sought after by outside employers. You earn masters level credits during the 2 year rotational EEDP program.

      Cons

      Upper management doesn't seem to have a great work-life balance. They work long hours, and, at times, very stressful hours. Compensation early on seems to be on the low end of competitive.

      Pension plan, international company, broad scope of operations, good place to build skills to take elsewhere, salary in line with expectations

      Cons

      In Healthcare IT there is very much a high school locker room mentality. Promotion is all about who you know and who your friends are. Politics abound. On one hand you're told that GE wants people who speak out and innovate, but that's not what is really valued. Rock the boat at your own expense. There is little to no teamwork and customer service is a joke. The staff actively seeks to run away from problems rather than run towards problems. Any kind of process improvement is immediately watered down or shoved under the rug by management. Human Resources supports the management structure regardless of how poorly the staff is treated or how low the retention rate is. I am very disillusioned, I thought GE was a great place to go to work and have found out that it is not.

      Pros

      There is a great knowledge base at GE. The majority of people are great to work with and they want you to succeed. There are perks, discounts and other benefits for working for such a large company. Can't beat the appliance deal!!

      Cons

      If you want to work a lot GE is definitely the company you should work for. Work-life balance is a struggle. Salary tends to be lower.
