Pros

Relaxed work environment, good pay, flex hours outside of close. Gym on site, work from home when you need to, and permissive time off (unlimited as long as it’s approved by a manager).

Cons

Where to start? The work migrated to the Cincinnati location was all journal entries, processes, and repetitive tasks. No real analysis work. The work you do is all random based on what team you’re placed on, and if you aren’t one of managements favorites, forget about being promoted. Career progression is confusing and extremely subjective, no official guidelines on what you have to do to be promoted. GE is obsessed with finding P&L “good guys” no matter how you can get them. The internal audit function CAS is a joke, but it gets you to be an executive. Work has moved to a horizontal approach, so you will be doing only 1 of the following if you’re in accounting at GE: Cash, Treasury, Commercial, Supply Chain, Intercompany, Payroll/T&L, Consolidation, or Tax. GE could decide at anytime to sell off another business and you will lose your job.

Pros

Multi-Industrial, global organization. Global research and development network. 125+ year old institution that has worked through troubled times before. Because of its diversity, GE has positions for many different backgrounds and skills in its varied business components.

Cons

Cost cutting, reorganization, bad bets and circumspect accounting practices all indicate a downward trend for GE, The stock is down 45%+ while the market has been up the last two years. The company needs to pick a direction that works and treat its employees more like the valued talent they need to retain then disposable commodities with a 3-5 year expiration. Environment may work for the younger generation but there won't be much older talent left within the next few years.

Pros

Large company experience, globally distributed company with many opportunities. Exposure to multiple industries and business units. Potential for future growth is there if they can address failed financial decisions.

Cons

Constant change, lack of direction and clear goals and objectives makes for a challenging environment. The culture is not great and the environment is depressing.
