Pros

I was working remotely so they couldn't micromanage me that much. Other than that it's pretty hard to think of one.

Cons

I spent 4 hours in meetings today. This isn't every day but it's not that abnormal. When I was being onboarded someone told me they were in around 3 hours/day of meetings on average. This is because when I have a problem and I ask someone to help with it, the default solution is to have a meeting. I want to do my job, not listen to other people talk. The laptop they gave me has an hour of battery life and if I leave it in my bag for too long it becomes too hot for me to hold. I'm a software developer btw. It didn't seem like any of the people on my team cared, and I don't blame them that much for that. It was hard to find reasons why I should care either. Also when I was reading a lot of the official company materials there was a sense of "Geico is the greatest place in the world, you're so lucky to be here".

Pros

Work from home 3 days a week. Pay is solid.

Cons

When I started it was 5 days work from home. When I started there was profit sharing. When I started they said they promote from within and new positions open constantly. When I started the scoring metrics were clear and reflective of what the job was. All the stuff that was promised is now gone. Now it’s just poorly outlined metrics and micromanagement and the supervisors are just apologists for poor management decisions. Same as all corporations. Profits profits profits. People at the top not knowing what it’s like on the ground floor. Making changes and decisions that adversely affect employees and their customers.

Pros

has no previous history of laying employees off, great place to learn some fairly cutting edge certifications, had a lot of work, lots of conversion work from mainframe to .NET. the previous culture was family-like in a good way. slightly more diverse? still not a lot of African-Americans but they appear to be making an honest attempt.

Cons

now has a history of laying employees off, 8,000 in fact. company is losing money with every policy they sell and cannot take rate so they are slowing policy sales and letting people go. the company has always been like Italy before unification, many fiefdoms, many of which do not cooperate. this is the only company I know of that will buy a software package from a 3rd party vendor and spend millions Geico-izing it.
