Pros

Lots of overtime every week, great co-workers, free lunches on occasion.

Cons

I don’t recommend working for GFL/County Waste. Management did nothing about a supervisor really screwing things up to the point they should’ve been fired. Pay was not even good enough considering we were screamed at every day when someone’s trash wasn’t picked up. I can’t tell you how many times I got called nasty things in one day alone. These customers think they’re so entitled it made working there every day a pain. You would get a nice person on occasion. I didn’t even work in the same state the customers were being serviced so they sometimes made you feel really dumb when you didn’t know a certain location they were trying to describe. I had to constantly tell people I was living in a completely different state. If you push yourself really hard to take a lot of calls each day, you can make an extra couple hundred dollars a month. Not worth it because of the added stress, in my opinion. Even though the job description tells you you’ll work 8-5 expect it to be at least 8-5:30 or 6. They won’t let you leave until the queue is at zero. It’s especially bad during winter when so many people call due to snow delays. So prepare yourself for very long days because sometimes I was there til 7pm during the winter. PTO is a complete joke. You must use it even if you want a day off to visit family or need a sick day. They won’t let you take unpaid days off unless you need a few hours off for a doctors appointment. They micromanage you so much that if you’re off the phone for 5 minutes taking a breather, you must explain to one of the supervisors why you’re not taking calls otherwise they bug you to get back on the phones. Before GFL took over, it was an amazing place to work but ever since their huge corporate self bought County Waste, it’s gone downhill. They treat us like robots rather than employees with feelings and lives outside of work. They also have other employees train new people. There are no new hire training videos like most jobs have. So if the person training you doesn’t teach you correctly, it could negatively affect you later. I don’t recommend working here unless you can handle high stress levels and getting screamed at every day.
