Pros

Great and young coworkers to be around

Cons

The company went entirely downhill over the three years I was there. Constant restructuring in attempts to fix the leaks on an already sinking business has lead to constant dissatisfaction amongst employees and targets that are unattainable. Middle management at GLG is completely useless and unaware of how the work feels for individual contributors as the landscape of the work and role have shifted in the last few years. The executive team are filled with incompetent individuals who are totally out of touch. It’s clear that the company is just looking to sell at some point or merge with a competitor, and has consistently tried to become more lean to make that happen. GLG is a company where your work ethic does not matter, and neither do your past results. You’ll be put in scenarios where goals are unattainable despite any amount of effort and be at fault for it. The work itself is meaningless and tiresome, and the company does zero to reward or motivate anybody. Upwards mobility is entirely luck based depending on the account you’re hired on, and you will likely never even get a shot at a people-management position as you can’t even really work your way up anymore. There’s an enormous focus to be “phone-first” despite those actions clearly being a waste of time most of the time, and the job has become a glorified call center type role. Work life balance had gotten much worse- went from 2 days in office to 4 (and probably 5 soon) with expectations to monitor and respond to emails for over 12 hours a day (8:30 am to 9 pm) and also on weekends.

Pros

Flexible WFH Generally great people Recently brought in large hiring classes. Mostly new grads.

Cons

It's a really strange role where it isn't good for anyone who is interested in finance, consulting, law, strategy, or anything really. You get brief exposure to what's happening in whatever sector you're aligned with, but it's generally so devoid of context that you don't really gain anything from it, nor do you really get time to truly research and understand it. You'd be better off reading the news (they do have Bloomberg news on the TVs in the office, but good luck watching without scrutiny, very strange and performative move by management/leadership). Metrics-driven. If your team is performing well, your metrics will rise (your reward for work is more work). If you inherit an underperforming book, prepare to spend most of your days doing nothing while somehow also grinding for months (every intake is treated as urgent) for no bonus (shareholder value tho!). Painfully repetitive and becoming more and more reliant on an AI workflow (which is good, it DOES make an easy job even easier, but it really does reduce the job to button pushing and phone calls), little if any emphasis on professional development, major divide between junior staff, middle management, and leadership. If you are a new grad looking for a job, unless you have no other options, please do something else. You may see the salary range and think it is worth it (it is definitely above average for new grads/entry level), but I guarantee that you will be happier making less money if you're doing something you are either interested in or has a positive social impact. The company lacks a real identity or culture, and it will wear you down.

Pros

Reasonably supportive colleagues and okay place to start a career

Cons

Cost cutting, may fire you at any time without much notice ("asked to leave"), not appreciative of true talent (more concerned about cost-cutting than investing in talent), needs more structure. No real career growth. In SEA, since the Senior Associate position was removed, your next move after Associate is Manager, which is like a 4-year promotion wait. This is intentional.
