Cons

You can only make changes to your personal portfolio at predetermined times throughout the year to avoid potential conflicts of interest and insider trading issues

Pros

You get a lot of autonomy with clients and get to create solid relationships. Good exposure to different client types (Sell / Buy Side). Fairly decent work / life balance.

Cons

Most managers do not have experience actually managing a team. Transparency about role progression and advancement is limited. Sales people are lazy and incompetent. Research Managers do all of the hard work and are barely recognized for it.
