My honest review on my experience at GM Financial

Pros

Collaborative Environment: Most colleagues are great to work with, creating a generally positive team dynamic. Diversity: The company boasts a diverse workforce, which enriches the workplace culture. Educational Support: Employees are encouraged to pursue continuing education, with reimbursement available upon approval from upper management. This is great for those looking to get certifications or continue education.

Cons

Benefits: The benefits package is average and could use improvement. Management Issues: My experience with a particular manager was extremely negative. This individual micromanaged excessively, monitored log-in/log-out times—even while on vacation—and expected immediate responses, often misinterpreting silence as lack of productivity. Toxic Leadership: The manager frequently spoke poorly about team members behind their backs and created a hostile environment. Positive feedback was nonexistent; only criticism was given. I would not refer any of my family or friends to this group because I would not want them to be under this toxic leadership. Probably the worst manager I've ever work with in the 15+ years I've been in the workforce. Lack of Trust in New Employees: Upper management tended to side with long-tenured employees over newcomers, even when evidence supported the latter. High Turnover: The team under this manager experienced frequent turnover, which now makes complete sense given the working conditions. HR Inaction: Despite clear signs of dysfunction, HR did not intervene. It’s unclear whether this is due to internal politics or lack of oversight. Layoff Concerns: The company underwent multiple rounds of layoffs, often contradicting prior assurances from leadership. This created a climate of uncertainty and distrust.
