You get paid minimum wage, and the commissions are terrible. (Like 10 cents if you sell a certain product.) You will constantly have sales goals to meet. These goals are often geared toward selling GNC's products, which give the lowest commissions, over other products. Higher management (district or regional managers) is constantly riding you about sales. Stores only allow the managers a certain number of hours for employees. This means you will be working alone, opening and closing the store, making bank deposits at the end of the night, and generally being responsible for things that should be a managers job. This also means that you might only get scheduled for 12 hours a week. No incentive program, and no benefits unless you are a manager.

It's a job!!! You get paid to perform a job... if you like to 'not be bothered' and be left alone to do a task at your pace, or want to blend in and perform mediocre work, don't apply here. I am not saying that to be discouraging to anyone but I find that there are two types of people in the work place-- those that want to do a great job and want to get recognized, and those that need a paycheck and only want to perform the minimum-- just enough to not get yourself fired. If you are one of these people that like to relax and kind of waste time at work and look for "down time" opportunities to goof off... this ain't the place to work. The reason is that the work force if very lean, so you are expected to do a lot, I mean every sales associate is expected to do what many Store Managers may do in other retailer environments. That's good and bad... you do a lot for what perhaps some people feel can be better paid.. but the flip side is that you are actually learning to be a part of management without realizing it, and eventually career growth opportunities begin to appear.
