      Pros

      Good friendly R&D colleagues at the RTP site, most of which were let go in 2015. Some "DPUs" were bringing some interesting programs to the pipeline.

      Cons

      Huge R&D organization with lots of layers, massive bureaucracy, all process driven with zero thinking or creativity, brutal inter-site competition. GSK now knows that it cannot compete as an R&D organization, it's unable to discover and develop new drugs, new CEO coming in 2017 to try to stop downward spiral, good luck.

      Pharma will always be vilified

      Pros

      Pharma will always be lucrative as long as they keep the development pipeline full of assets that can go onto successful trials, and there lies the Achilles heel of the industry. That and CEO issues and law suits.

      Cons

      GSK slaughtered its R&D presence in NC over a decade. Once a predominate tenant in the Research Park area, GSK left its employees with pro-rated severances and the area with shells of empty buildings for off-shored and contracted work. One excuse actually given in 2014, 'real-estate was cheaper in Philly.'

      Pros

      Intent to seek new opportunities for growing the business. Promotion options seem to be available.

      Cons

      No concerted way of making well informed decisions. Mistrust of analytic solutions. Very near term focused; very risk averse. Promotions based on relationships vs skills or merit. Very UK centric. Most of the progressive thinkers in R&D have left due to frustration.
