Pros

Pay is ok, as long as you are not a temporary worker. Company generally seems committed to safety. Company tries to keep employees informed.

Cons

If you are an older, non-management employee, lower level supervisors try to drive you down and out of the company. If you file a complaint against a supervisor, they will find a way to drive you to quit. Five (5) months after I resigned, GSK is demanding that they overpaid me, and threatening to take me to court if I don't write them a check. GSK makes it difficult to get your paystubs, which are very difficult to understand anyway. They forced all workers to "go paperless" yet won't give you time or access to download a paystub! They don't properly train low level supervisors, who in turn mentally abuse the older workers until they quit...forcing them to take orders from temporary employees. One woman who broke her hip at work and eventually came back to work about 8 months later, was quickly fired for "not being able to lift 50 lbs. There is a huge gap between upper management and line workers. Young laboratory workers and office personnel are treated like gold, while most regular workers are kept out of the corporate loop. Training via computer is about the worst I've ever seen- forcing workers to take tests in areas that don't concern their actual jobs. Temporary workers are told they will get hired soon...but almost never do get hired on by the company (I felt sorry for them). The company puts up a huge false front about treating people with respect, yet ignores and retaliates against employees who actually have the courage to complain about being an environment like a teacher screaming at the kindergarden kids! Confidentiality by supervisors is a joke. I have worked for people_abusive companies before, but never for one that made sensitivity and caring their motto.

Pros

Salary range is good. Flexible work environment, to a certain extent. Generous benefits.

Cons

International component (small teams spread across many time zones) can make meetings, team-building, and work a challenge, as does the Business Service Center approach (open office spaces), which can bring noise and distraction. Opportunities for promotions are rare, and profit-sharing could be better for lower tiers. US-based employees are now expensive and on the decline where hiring is concerned.
